May 26th Opening Day 2010, started off wet ending with some sunshine and a bit of warmth. Mayor Paul Dennis, along with his children, cut the ribbon to officially open the market season. The WSU Master Gardeners were on hand educating customers on growing healthy tomatoes. We had a diverse group of vendors. Shoppers took home sweet strawberries, artisan breads, asparagus, greens, radishes, mushrooms, jams, olives, flowers, cheese, lamb and more while enjoying a hot dinner of tamales, gyros and burritos.

For our last Day of Market on September 30th our special event, "All Things Pie",  we had kids making pies with homemade playdough, an Iron Chef Pie contest and a pie eating contest.

The 2nd Annual Farm to Table Gala took place on September 26th at 6:00pm. It was a beautiful evening at Farside Farm on the west side of Prune Hill. The event featured the music of Ruby Hill, and the attendees enjoyed fresh, deliciously prepared, local food.

The event is an annual fundraiser that benefits the market. Supporting local farms, teaching skills for seasonal, healthy eating, and bringing local and sustainable foods to our community takes time, effort and money. We appreciate all the community members that share their time and/or money to help the nurture and grow the market!

In celebration of National Farmer's Market Week, the Camas Farmer's Market hosted the 1st annual Veggie Derby on August 5th. Thank you for everyone who came out to participate and made it such a fun event. It really is okay to play with your food!

Kids made derby cars out of veggies and raced them down a ramp. Prizes were awarded for:

  • Fastest
  • Most Variety of Veggies Used
  • Most Creative
  • Furthest Traveled

July 22nd - Berry Days. What fun to watch Karen Lasher, Chef/Owner of Around the Table, prepare salads, desserts and entrees with berries from the market. The "samples" of berry shortcake were huge and delicious. Sweet Buscuits were donated from Russell's Breads and we had blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries donated from Meadowglenn, Duyck's and Boones Ferry Berry Farm. Thank You for helping us put on a great event!

The 2nd Annual Most Marvelous Mutt contest was on July 1, 2009. New this year was an obstacle course with a prize awarded to the fastest dog. Many local merchants donated prizes and we had winners in the following categories: Softest, Biggest, Best Bark, Best Trick, Smallest, Most Patriotic. If you are intersted in helping for the MMM contest of 2010 please contact Dore at the Naturally Healthy Pet store in downtown Camas.

Cookbook and Gardening Book Swap was held on Wednesday, June 10th, 3pm-7pm. Market customers brought used (or new) cookbooks and gardening books down to the market  to swap for a "new" one. This was a great way to recycle books that were no longer being used and to get some fresh ideas without spending any money.
